Oh, Melbourne!
(S.See)
Sam’s life has always centred around music. Early classical piano and cello lessons and an ambition to be a doctor took an abrupt left turn when he first heard the opening feedback in The Beatles’ “I Feel Fine”.
Sam was a member of several seminal Australian bands – Sherbet, Flying Circus, and Fraternity.
In 1974, he joined famed Canadian rock orchestra, Lighthouse, and toured Canada and the US. This led him into extensive studio work in Toronto.
Sam returned to Australia and formed Stockley, See and Mason, with Chris Stockley and Glyn Mason.
Sam was offered the opportunity to be John Farnham’s music director in 1981 and wrote “Reasons”, one of the hit singles from “Whispering Jack”.
Sam’s musical path then moved back into the studio, where he played on countless records and jingles and produced recordings by Daryl Braithwaite, Tina Arena, Normie Rowe and many other talented artists. During this period he recorded and toured with some of Australia’s favourite acts including Brian Cadd, Goanna, and the Black Sorrows.
In 1993, he was musical director for Steve Vizard’s “Tonight Live”.
“Unhinged” was Sam’s first solo guitar CD, released in 2001.
The following year Sam reunited with his musical compadre, Glyn Mason and released three CDs as The Pardoners.
Sam and Glyn were recruited by Glenn Shorrock and Brian Cadd for the Axiom 40 year reunion in 2013 and toured the reunion album throughout Australia in 2014-18.
More recently, the Pardoners joined with Lindsay Field to form Field, See & Mason. Their latest project “Down Under The Covers” reimagines and reinvents Australian classic songs with stunning three part harmonies over an acoustic bed featuring Sam’s guitar.
