Blue Avenue
(D.Hall/P.Kenyon)
Dan Hall has been a fixture of the Australian music scene for 30 years.
Dan formed his first band Mermaids Lunchbox in 1990, aged 12, later joining Stove, featuring Billy Baxter (ex-Hollowmen) and Liz Aldridge (ex-Pale Blue Eyes).
On one of his busking escapades in mid 1997, he was approached by guitarist Tim Wild, who was putting together an acoustic based pop/rock project with a heavy vocal harmony influence, and by mid 1998 the project had become Taxiride, and the band went on to sign a unique joint deal to both Sire Records USA and Warner Music Australia.
Their first single, ‘Get Set’, reached the Top 10 in Australia in April 1999, and the Top 30 in the US.
Taxiride’s debut album ‘Imaginate’ entered the Australian charts at number 1 that October, and also charted well in the US, UK and Europe, selling over 300 000 copies, achieving double platinum status and an ARIA award for best new artist in 1999. Taxiride spent the next 18 months touring Australia, Europe, Japan and the US.
After leaving the band in 2000, the original line up reformed in 2015 for two Australian tours.
Hall released his low key, acoustic solo LP ‘SouthSide Rebel’ independently in 2011.
With COVID restrictions relaxed, Dan has returned to his legendary Sunday afternoon sessions at the Retreat Hotel in Abbotsford.
All releases by Taxiride and Airway Lanes are currently accessible on Spotify and YouTube music.
